Police in Orange search for shooting suspect

Police in Orange are searching for a suspect who shot a 21-year-old resident multiple times before fleeing the scene. Officers with the Orange Police Department responded to a report of gunshots in the 400 block of Know Avenue at 7:42 p.m. on Nov. 16, Capt. Robert Enmon reports.

Nederland completes storm debris collection

City of Nederland officials announced Nov. 13 that the first and second debris passes are completed for hurricane pickup. Normal trash routes resume on Nov. 16 for the south route. Normal trash pickup will resume for the north route on Nov. 23. 

PA reports another COVID death

Nov. 6, Port Arthur Health Department Director Judith Smith released word that another resident of the city has died due to complications related to COVID-19. This is the 40th COVID-19 related death for Port Arthur since the beginning of this pandemic.

Single bid opened for Ford Park sale

Just one bidder made a ploy for the purchase of Jefferson County’s Ford Park Entertainment Complex when bids were open at 11 a.m. Nov. 6.  Purchasing staff opened the lone bid packet, submitted by Port Arthur Renaissance GP LLC, revealing a bid below the minimum asked.

Guard sentenced for Beaumont inmate assault

A former Senior Correctional Officer at the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) in Beaumont was sentenced Sept. 8 in federal court for assaulting an inmate housed at the facility. “Correctional officers work hard every day to enforce the rules and ensure order within our prisons,” said U.S.

Another Vidor meth arrest

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 8th, officers with the Vidor Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Silver 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 2400 block of North Main that led to the arrest of one man and the confiscation of over 40 grams of meth, according to Chief Rod Carroll.

From the city of Port Arthur: Port Arthur citizens evacuated by the city to Walker County returned to the Civic Center on Monday, Aug. 31; evacuees from other locations will be returning to Port Arthur on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

County notes added COVID deaths

Aug. 31, the Port Arthur and Jefferson County health departments reported two additional COVID-19 related deaths – one, a Port Arthur white male resident between the ages of 80 and 85, the other a white male Nederland resident between the ages of 60 and 65.
