Washington Boulevard closure

City contractors will be closing a portion of Washington Boulevard to through traffic for two weeks starting April 20, according to a news release. Traffic will be closed from Iola to 5th Street due to construction of a new roadway. Detours and traffic control will be in place ahead of the closure.

PAPD investigating Birch Street stabbing

Around 9 p.m., Port Arthur police were dispatched to a stabbing that occurred in the 2100 block of Birch Street, according to a news release.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim with serious injuries before he was transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition.

Child drowns in Event Centre lake

At 2:30 p.m. April 15, responders with the Beaumont Police Department, Beaumont Fire and Rescue and Beaumont EMS responded to the Event Centre lake at 700 Crockett St. in reference to a possible drowning.

Nederland Independent School District is looking to the future for the class of 2020. The district announced the plans to hold their graduation ceremony May 28 at Ford Park. Should Nederland ISD need to reschedule, additional dates provided are June 23 or July 21.

Customer robbed on Gulfway Drive

April 14, at about 9:15 a.m., officers with the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to the 3400 block of Gulfway Drive in reference to a robbery that had just taken place.

Galveston County announced the unincorporated areas of beachfront, which includes the Bolivar Peninsula are back open for recreational use. "Beaches in the unincorporated areas of Galveston County have been reopened effective April 13th, 2020," reads a county notice.

EOC releases April 13 update

The Southeast Texas Regional Emergency Operations Center released the daily updates for the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Southeast Texas.  Throughout the entire six-county region, there are now 258 confirmed cases, including nine deaths related to the virus.
