Beaumont Police Department (BPD) reported a man was shot and transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound June 25.
According to BPD, at 2:26 a.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Virginia Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers rendered life-saving aid until Beaumont EMS arrived and the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation revealed the incident began as a verbal disturbance that escalated to shots being fired. The suspect remained at the scene and was identified as Brian Matthews, 35, of Beaumont. Matthews was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, where he was charged with aggravated assault.
