Billie Jo Petty, 46, was convicted June 9 of felony possession of a controlled substance in 128th District Court and sentenced to 18 months in a state jail facility, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
On May 31, 2024, officers with the Orange Police Department responded to the intersection of State Highway 62 and Interstate 10 regarding a vehicle stopped in the roadway with an unconscious driver.
Officers knocked on the window multiple times before waking Petty and instructed her to move into the Flying J parking lot. Officers then conducted a probable cause search due to the odor of marijuana.
During the search, officers located smoked marijuana cigarettes and a glass pipe containing a crystal substance later confirmed as methamphetamine.
