May 26, at approximately 2:46 p.m., the Nederland Police Department (NPD) Dispatch Center was notified of a robbery that had just occurred at the Smoke N More Shop, 3510 Highway 365 in Nederland.
During the call for service, it was discovered that a black male had committed a theft at the business and while fleeing, produced a handgun and fired a shot at the clerk, NPD reported. No one was struck by the gunfire.
NPD advised that subsequent investigation led detectives to identify the suspect as Brad Allen Jones, 36.
“Detectives were able to pinpoint an address in the 3600 block of Chevy Chase, Port Arthur, where Jones was found by officers,” according to an announcement from NPD Chief Rod Carroll, which also thanked the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and K9 Units, the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force, Real Time Crime Center and the Port Arthur Police Department. “After some discussion over the phone with Jones, he surrendered peacefully to officers and was taken into custody without incident at 6 p.m. on the same day.”
A search warrant executed at the Port Arthur home and vehicle suspectedly used to flee the scene uncovered the stolen property, the handgun believed to be used during the robbery, and distinctive clothing matching the clothing in the surveillance footage, police further reported.
Jones was arrested for aggravated robbery. As of press time, Jones was being held in custody of the Jefferson County Correctional Facility in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
