Police seek teen responsible for shooting 2-year-old brother

Just after midnight May 25, Beaumont police officers were dispatched to the emergency room at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, located at 3080 College St., in reference to a gunshot victim — a 2-year-old toddler. According to police, the child had been transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Investigators then identified the suspected shooter as the victim’s older brother, Javon Jean, 17, of Beaumont, who reportedly transported the victim to the hospital but left the scene before officers were able to interview him. Preliminary information indicated Jean accidentally discharged a firearm inside their apartment at Plymouth Village Apartments, located at 5080 Helbig Road, striking the child, police alleged.

Beaumont police stated that the shooting victim was later airlifted to a medical facility in Houston for further treatment.

Jean had not yet been located to serve an active warrant for aggravated assault as of press time, Beaumont police indicated. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Javon Jean is encouraged to contact the Beaumont Police Department at (409) 832-1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at (409) 833-TIPS (8477).
