Capital murder alleged in Orange woman’s death

Wednesday, May 20, investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office initiated a criminal investigation after deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 200 block of Med Davis Rd. in Orange. On scene, first responders discovered Jacqueline Michelle Jeffrey, 28, suffering from multiple lacerations and stab wounds. Jeffery was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Beaumont where she later died from her injuries.

Jonathan Matthews, 45, was located by deputies on the same property near Jeffrey, deputies reported. Deputies reportedly became suspicious after speaking with Matthews at the scene. Matthews, who had lacerations to his neck and hand, was detained by deputies before being transported by ambulance to a hospital in Beaumont.

Investigators processed the crime scene and collected numerous items of evidence. Several witnesses were interviewed, and video evidence was obtained. Through investigative efforts and coordination with the Orange County District Attorney, probable cause was established to obtain an arrest warrant charging Matthews with capital murder.
