At least two of the five teenagers arrested for the Jan. 1 homicide of a man riding his bicycle in Beaumont were already under court supervision for alleged prior violent offenses exacted on the community less than one year ago.
As of Jan. 29, the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) had secured five arrest warrants in the New Year’s homicide of 54-year-old Clifford Motton, who was riding his bike near the intersection of St. Helena and Walton when he was gunned down and left for dead. Motton, who was shot multiple times, was found in the road and transported to a local hospital where he later died. In custody for Motton’s murder as of press time were: Jasmine Young, 24; a 16-year-old male juvenile; Isaiah Murchison, 17; Jason Monroe Murchison Jr., 19; and Eddie Dwight Davis Jr., 18. According to BPD, the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges against others involved in the murder are expected.
Both Eddie Dwight Davis Jr. and Jason Monroe Murchison Jr. (as well as an unnamed juvenile) were arrested during a similar incident in June 2024. Neither had answered the charges in court prior to being arrested – again – on yet other violent offense allegations prior to being charged with Motton’s murder.
In the June 19, 2024, shooting, Davis and Murchison were accused of deadly conduct by firing into an occupied home in the north end Beaumont area of Concord and Delaware. A witness to the drive-by style shooting identified a vehicle later found parked at a residence in the 3700 block of Detroit – where officers also found Davis, Murchison, narcotics, stolen property, Jason Murchison Sr. (a father allegedly “interfering with police duties”), an AR-style pistol and a “Glock-switch” modified 9mm.
Davis and Murchison were both reportedly charged with “Deadly Conduct-Discharging a Firearm,” with other charges pending, but were out of jail and allegedly again armed at the beginning of 2025.
Twelve days after the Jan. 1 murder, Davis was arrested for a deadly conduct warrant unrelated to the shooting death of Motton; the murder of Motton was added to Davis’ charges this week. BPD’s Special Assignment Unit (SAU) arrested Murchison Jr. on Jan. 8 for outstanding deadly conduct warrants; a murder charge for Motton’s death was also added this week.
Jan. 15, Jasmine Young, 24, was arrested, a 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested Jan. 16 and Isaiah Murchison, 17, was arrested by SAU on Jan. 22. All three were charged with tampering with evidence.
