Beaumont resident Sammy Lee Ware Jr., 49, was indicted July 17 by a Jefferson County grand jury following his felony arrest for drug possession. Ware faces charges for a “special degree” felony of manufacturing/ delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 or 2-A, greater than 400 grams. His indictment followed a SWAT raid on his home on Roberts Avenue in May.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) Special Agent Daniel Hebert, with the assistance of Beaumont Police Department (BPD) and SWAT officers, executed a residential search warrant on May 2, 2023, as part of a narcotics trafficking investigation. During surveillance, BPD officers observed Ware leaving the Roberts Avenue home and conducted a routine traffic stop. Once Ware was detained, Hebert and BPD executed the search warrant, reportedly discovering cocaine, crack cocaine, synthetic marijuana, scales and various items used to cook crack cocaine.
The aggregate weight of the seized cocaine was divulged as approximately 40 grams, while the synthetic marijuana reportedly weighed about 680 grams, or a pound and a half. Synthetic marijuana falls under Penalty Group 2-A, while cocaine and crack cocaine are classified under Penalty Group 1.
