State parks open, prepay required

Texas State Parks (TSP) is changing their operations in the wake of COVID-19 spread.  According to information from TSP, most state parks remain open; however, changes have been made to help protect the health and well-being of visitors, volunteers and staff.

In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, and to combat its spread, the Port Arthur City Council met via video conference from their respective homes and offices.  The council postponed its May 2 election to November 3, the next available date.

Today, March 30, 2020 the Beaumont Public Health Department (BPHD) received confirmation of 6 positive cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in 5 Beaumont residents and 1 resident in an unincorporated area of Jefferson County.

According to the Southeast Texas Regional Emergency Operations Center, there are 45 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the six-county region, that includes Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, Orange and Tyler Counties.

PA to discuss selling six city parks

The Port Arthur City Council will discuss its intent to sell several parks throughout the city at a meeting March 31. The council considered the matter in late 2019, but no vote was taken. The funds generated from selling the parks would be used to improve the city's remaining parks.

Jefferson County issues burn ban

Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick signed an amendment to the local COVID-19 emergency order on March 30 to ban burning in the county that isn’t authorized by Texas Parks and Wildlife, the fire department or TCEQ.

Travel from Louisiana continues despite governor's order

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a mandate requiring anyone entering the state of Texas through a Louisiana roadway to adhere to a 14-day quarantine. The order took effect Monday, March 30, at noon. As of 1:30 p.m.
