At 4:00 PM CDT (2100 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Laura was located near latitude 27.9 North, longitude 92.8 West. Laura is moving toward the northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h). A turn toward the north-northwest and north is expected tonight, and a northward motion should continue on Thursday.

One new case was reported by the Beaumont Health Department Wednesday. Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SEARAC.COM) reported today Wednesday Aug. 26 COVID-19 patients in Jefferson County hospitals were down to 15 in ICU and 47 in general hospital beds.

Beaumont emergency operations to cease

Beaumont’s emergency operations will cease once winds reach 35 mph, according to BPD Officer Haley Morrow.  Wind speeds are predicted to exceed 100 mph, meaning the aforementioned scenario is quite likely. As of 4:30 p.m.
