The Port Arthur Police Department issued a statement Aug. 26 warning Port Arthur residents that police and fire units will not be able to respond to calls at the height of Hurricane Laura.

According to PAPD, "For the safety of our first responders, the Port Arthur Police Department and Port Arthur Fire Department will no longer respond to any calls for service once sustained tropical storm force winds reach the city. We recommend the citizens stay indoors and keep safe as the hurricane passes. Once weather conditions allow, we will resume operations."
