Garbage collection schedule in Beaumont

Regular trash routes will resume today ( Wed ) on a delayed schedule. Residents should place their City trash bins at the curb on their regularly scheduled collection day and leave them at the curb until they are serviced.

Edouard clean-up

Clean-up from Tropical Storm Edouard continues. More than 70.000 power outages were reported by Entergy Texas. The majority of the outages were in Jefferson and Hardin Counties. Several trees were knocked down by the strong winds hitting power lines that led to the outages.

Highway closed

At the request from DPS, Tex-Dot has closed a section of Highway 69 southbound and northbound at 1003 north of Kountze in Hardin County due to high water. Barricades are in place and motorists should take an alternate route.

Entergy Texas crews have been working overnight to restore power. More than 70,000 customers were without power at the height of the storm. . Jefferson County reported the most outages in the area with over 28,000. Hardin County had just under 14,000. Over 1,000 Entergy crews are restoring power.

Steady rain in downtown Beaumont arrived around 1:45 Tuesday afternoon as Tropical Storm Edouard approaches the Texas Coast. More than five inches are expected in parts of Southeast Texas.

Upgrades to Jasper County Jail

Upgrades are underway at the Jasper County. Jail. "The 14 bed addition will be ready for housing in about 45 days. Additionally, we are having all of our electronics security systems upgraded. These are much needed improvements." Sheriff Chuck Havard told The Examiner.
