Multiple agencies battled a fire Thursday morning, Oct 15, at Scrap Works Industrial Highway 90 west, not far from Beaumont Municipal Airport.
Jefferson County Emergency Service District #3 Chief Phillip Kibodeaux tells The Examiner this facility opened about a week ago."It appears batteries in a separation area caught fire and quickly spread to another pile" said Kibodeaux. Assistance at the scene was provided by ExxonMobil and the Sabine Neches Chiefs Association. Williams Fire & Hazard Control was also on site.
It is believed the fire broke out around 2:30 am. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 5:00 am, remaining at the location for just over three hours. TCEQ arrived on the scene to test air quality in the area. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.
