Traffic stop turns into meth arrest

At 6:52 p.m. June 24, Beaumont Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2100 block of Delaware Street.

The driver, identified as L T Savoy, 41, of Beaumont, reportedly fled on foot from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended. After being taken into custody, officers allegedly located a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine in Savoy’s possession.

Once Savoy was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, officers reported confirmation that Savoy had a prior conviction for evading detention, which enhanced the current evading detention charge from a misdemeanor to a felony.

Savoy was charged with possession of a controlled substance and evading detention.
