Teens arrested for aggravated robbery

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a deadly conduct call in the 2300 block of Hayes Lane, according to the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

April 2, officers responded to a home, where a preliminary investigation revealed that Krystafer J. Burkett, 18, discharged a firearm during an aggravated robbery, firing a round into the ground. Officers located Burkett nearby, detained him and reportedly recovered an AR-15-style rifle from the vehicle he occupied. Burkett was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility and charged with aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $500,000.

Further investigation identified another suspect, Jaylon Bertrand, also 18, fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Bertrand, who was arrested April 4 after being located in the 3100 block of Eastex Freeway.

After briefly fleeing and barricading himself inside a residence, Bertrand was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered three additional handguns at the location, two of which were reported stolen.

Bertrand was charged with aggravated robbery (bond set at $600,000) and evading arrest (bond set at $5,000).
