Standoff ends with suspect’s surrender

A Beaumont man was arrested after a standoff with police June 25.

The Beaumont Police Department (BPD) reported that, at 6:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Rena Street in reference to a disturbance.

Officers arrived on scene and the suspect — identified as Larry Williams, 25, of Beaumont — reportedly ran away on foot, entered his house, and barricaded the front door.

Preliminary investigation allegedly revealed that Williams assaulted his girlfriend, endangered their child, and had a felony warrant for his arrest.

BPD’s SWAT team was activated and responded to the scene.

Williams surrendered after a lengthy standoff and was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, charged with two counts of evading arrest with vehicle and assault to cause bodily injury with a $22,000 bond.
