PAISD teacher, coach killed in Houston

May 26, Marlon Sanders, a music teacher and coach at Port Arthur ISD’s Adams Elementary School and Memorial High School, was shot and killed in northeast Harris County on May 25, according to media reports.

The fatal shooting occurred during a child custody exchange. Sanders, 36, and his wife went to the 12700 block of Blue Timbers Court in Houston shortly after midnight to pick up her 9-month-old child. The child’s father, Gary Davis, 38, allegedly rushed out of his house and shot Sanders as he stood beside his vehicle.

Davis was later arrested and charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail. His bond was set at $200,000.

Port Arthur ISD shared a tribute to Sanders on social media.

“PAISD extends our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Sanders family and all who knew, loved, worked with, were taught or coached by, and enjoyed the talents of Marlon Sanders,” the district wrote. “Our beloved Adams Elementary School music teacher, Titans football and basketball coach, and singer/DJ/musician will be missed by so many.”
