Man arrested after attacking girlfriend

The Port Neches Police Department (PNPD) reported a man was arrested after attacking his girlfriend and forcing her into a vehicle before leaving an apartment complex on April 23.

Jermaine Haynes, 23, of Port Arthur, was arrested for unlawful restraint and obstruction/retaliation and was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. A protective order was filed, and the case has been submitted to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Around 10:22 p.m., officers were called to the Matterhorn Apartments regarding a domestic disturbance and were advised Haynes had assaulted his girlfriend in the parking lot, then grabbed her by the hair, forcing her into a vehicle before leaving the complex.

One officer worked with a witness who had the victim’s location on her cellphone. The officer also obtained a description of the vehicle and, using license plate reader technology, located a vehicle matching the description leaving the area within the specified time frame. The officer then broadcast the vehicle’s identifying information to surrounding agencies.

A Groves police officer located the vehicle and conducted a stop on 8th Avenue in Port Arthur. Two officers arrived shortly after, and Haynes was placed under arrest. The victim was also located. While officers were speaking with the victim, Haynes reportedly engaged in behavior that appeared to be an attempt to prevent the victim’s cooperation.
