K9 assists in capture of alleged burglar

Feb. 19, Beaumont Police Department (BPD) reported officers responded to the 2300 block of South 4th Street in reference to a burglary in progress at 7:16 p.m., and reportedly spotted a male suspect found to be in possession of stolen property; then, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

K9 Officer Rhip and his handler responded to assist, along with additional officers. The suspect was located in the backyard of a nearby residence and taken into custody without further incident.

Christopher Johnson, 41, was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Identification Unit were notified.
