Hit-and-run suspect indicted in pedestrian's death

A 45-year-old Orange man has been indicted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Port Arthur woman in August.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Dekobi Fisher on Sept. 16 for a second-degree felony charge of collision involving death in connection with the death of 64-year-old Kimberly Viator.

According to the indictment, Fisher is accused of knowing a collision had occurred and failing to render reasonable assistance to Viator when it was apparent she was in need of medical treatment.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case, Fisher was traveling eastbound in the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur at approximately 9:30 p.m. Aug. 9 when his vehicle veered off the roadway and struck Viator, who was a pedestrian.

The affidavit alleges Fisher did not immediately stop to determine whether a person was involved in the collision or whether anyone had been injured. Fisher is also accused of leaving the scene and not immediately returning after seeing damage to his vehicle, according to the affidavit.

Viator was transported to Southeast Texas Medical Center following the collision, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the affidavit.

Viator lived nearby, according to authorities.
