It’s been nearly five years since Texas Rangers and the Orange County District Attorney were tasked with investigating an alleged misappropriation of public funds in Rose City; but, just one day shy of her 41st birthday, investigators arrested and charged former City Secretary Tonya Nicole Veazey with enhanced theft of property between the total of $30,000 and $150,000.

Then Rose City Mayor Bonnie Stephenson requested assistance from the Texas Rangers to investigate potential theft from the municipality in 2019, as reported by then Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

Veazey was apprehended in Orange County on March 30, and quickly bonded out of custody.
