July 31, city of Beaumont employees discovered several of the amenities at Charlton Pollard Park, 2060 Irving Ave., had been vandalized overnight.
Among the reported findings: the splash pad was run over by a vehicle and damaged; drinking fountains were ripped off the wall; hand blowers and soap dispensers in the restroom had been ripped off the walls and other damage was done to the interior; a park bench was damaged; four trash receptacles were damaged; glass from broken bottles was spread around the premises; and a deadbolt had been broken.
“The city is working hard to improve our parks and green spaces and to make them a place for our citizens to enjoy with their friends and families,” city spokesperson Tracy Kennick said. “Things like this set us back in that endeavor.”
According to Kennick, city officials are still assessing the total amount of damages done to the property.
