April 10, following the arrest of a suspect in an aggravated assault case, Beaumont police detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1900 block of Tyler Street and seized suspected illegal narcotics.
The operation was conducted with assistance from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents and an FBI task force officer.
Detectives recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the assault, along with two additional loaded firearms. Investigators also seized suspected narcotics, including cocaine, crack cocaine, tramadol, promethazine, and marijuana.
Due to the nature of the case, police indicated prosecution will be referred to federal authorities.
Earlier in the day, officers were called to the 4700 block of Magnolia Avenue, where they found a 55-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators later determined the shooting occurred at a home in the 1900 block of Tyler Street.
James Rodney Goodman, 61, of Beaumont, surrendered to police and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on multiple charges, including aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and two misdemeanor drug charges. His bond was set at $320,000.
