A 40-year-old Mexican national living in Beaumont has been acquitted of continuous sexual abuse of a child in Jefferson County, reported defense counsel from the Galmor, Stovall & Gilthorpe Law Firm.
“A jury found Leonel Enrique Dominguez not guilty on Feb. 6,” the firm announced of the case heard in the Criminal District Court. “According to information presented in court, beginning on Aug. 8, 2017, through Nov. 10, 2021, Leonel Enrique Dominguez committed two or more acts of sexual abuse against a child. He wasn’t charged with the allegations until 2023, where he (was) subsequently arrested and has remained incarcerated in the Jefferson County jail for nearly three years.”
Defense counsel represented that, under state sentencing laws, Dominguez would have received at least 25 years in prison with no parole had the jury returned a verdict of guilty.
“This unfortunate false accusation should remind all of us that we must resist a rush to judgment when we hear an individual’s allegations of this nature,” counsel advised. “The facts and the motives behind such allegations, whether monetary, political or some other agenda should always be considered.”
