BPD arrests suspected murderer

April 1, officers from BPD arrested a man suspected of stabbing and killing a 26-year-old Beaumont man just a day prior. Tuesday, March 31, at 9:44 p.m., Beaumont police responded to the 9300 block of Riggs Street in reference to a victim of a stabbing.

Orange Municipal Court remains open

The Orange Municipal Court is still open and operational, according to the city’s website, keeping with normal court days and hours. The court is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  There will only be limited court personnel on hand until the mayor returns city operations to normal.

Two more Nederland residents positive for COVID-19

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting confirmation of two (2) additional positive COVID-19 cases in residents of Nederland. Their ages range between 60-70.  Both individuals are quarantined at home and are cooperating with local health officials.

Beaumont confirms two new COVID-19 cases

Today, April 2, 2020 the Beaumont Public Health Department (BPHD) received confirmation of 2 positive cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in Beaumont, according to a news release, bringing the total number of cases to 27 (25 in Beaumont and 2 in the unincorporated areas of Jefferson County).

Beaumont approves CenterPoint Energy rate increase

At its regular meeting March 24, the Beaumont City Council approved a recommended $4 million rate increase for CenterPoint Energy customers, which results in an $18 hike on each bill.  The vote passed 4-3, with councilmembers Taylor Neild, Mike Getz and Robin Mouton casting the no votes.

First COVID-19-related death reported in Beaumont

It is with great sadness that the City of Beaumont Public Health Department (BPHD) is reporting the first COVID-19 related death of a resident in Beaumont, according to a news release. The gentleman was between the ages of 70-80 years old and had underlying health issues.
