BISD announces reopening plan for 2020-21 school year

Beaumont ISD announced their reopening plans for the 2020-21 school year over a Zoom meeting July 16.    The district will begin the year August 17 with online instruction for the first three weeks of school, which could be extended based on the area's COVID-19 infection rate.

Nederland suffers another COVID-related death

July 17, the city of Port Arthur and Jefferson County health departments reported the fourth COVID-19 related death of a resident of Nederland. The individual was a white female between the ages of 80-85. It has been determined that this individual had underlying health conditions.

Chemical fire sparked in downtown business

Police and firefighters were called to Ohmstede Industrial Services in downtown Beaumont around 2 p.m. June 16 after a fire broke out in one of the company's buildings on Pine Street.

The Examiner has been made aware of a phone scammer contacting area residents.  A 90-year-old woman was contacted by a person claiming to be from Publisher's Clearing House and telling her she won $7,000 a week for life.
