Former Lamar golfer wins Babe Zaharias Open

The inaugural Babe Zaharias Open was won by former Lamar University standout Julie Aime as a field of 66 competed for a share of $33,000 at the Beaumont Country Club. Aime, Kendra Dalton and Maddie McCrary came into the final round all tied for the lead at 6-under.

Just before 2:30 p.m. Sept. 18, Beaumont police were called to the intersection of MLK Parkway and Laurel Street in reference to a man in the street. The man was seen swinging erratically at passing cars on the major thoroughfare, according to a passerby.

BISD staff member tests positive for COVID-19

Sept. 17, Beaumont ISD received confirmation that a staff member who was on location at Dishman Elementary and Marshall Middle School tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release. From the release:  "The individual was last present at each facility on Sept. 10.
