The inaugural Babe Zaharias Open at Beaumont Country Club is beginning to heat up as players are through 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament at the Beaumont Country Club. The field of 66 is battling for a share of the $33,000 purse and an exemption into the IOA Golf Classic next week. Some players were able to close the gap as some posted low numbers to put themselves in contention going into tomorrow’s final round.

Round 1 co-leaders Julie Aime, of Beaumont and Kendra Dalton, of Argyle, both sit at the top of the leaderboard after recording consecutive scores of 69 to sit overall at 6-under overall. Aime carded five birdies and two bogeys in her Round 2 score while Dalton carded six birdies and three bogeys.

Joining them at the top is Maddie McCrary, of Wylie, who carded the low of the day with a 5-under 67 to build on her Round 1 1-under finish to get to 6-under par. McCrary was hot carding five birdies before the turn after starting on number 10. She would go on to add two more on her back nine, but would finish with two bogies on consecutive Par 5s. The biggest movers of the day were Nicole Autrique, of Mexico, and Maddie Luitwieler, of Katy, who both climbed up 35 spots after recording rounds of 67 (-5).

The final Round 3 will begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. A trophy presentation will follow Round 3 outside of the clubhouse.
