After a three-hour standoff on Jan. 3, the Orange Regional Tactical Team arrested a felony suspect allegedly involved in a police chase and smash-and-grab robbery earlier this week, according to a press release provided by Detective Sgt. Nick Medina.

Chadwick McMillen was arrested at 8:30 p.m. following the standoff at the James Zay Roberts Apartments at 610 Burton Ave. in Orange. He is currently being held in the Orange County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon on a public servant, according to jail records.

The press release stated in the early morning hours of Jan. 3, Orange Police Department (OPD) officers took a report of a stolen vehicle at Frey’s Nursery in Orange. It appeared the suspect used a firearm to enter the business where a vehicle was stolen.

Moments later, OPD officers located the stolen vehicle behind The Horseman Store, located at 519 S. Lutcher in Orange. When officers attempted to make contact with the male occupant, the vehicle sped away.

During the police pursuit in Orange, officers reported the suspect fired several rounds from a shotgun towards the pursuing officers. Officers continued to pursue until the suspect wrecked the stolen vehicle at the intersection of 16th and Cordrey. The suspect exited the vehicle and evaded officers on foot. Officers pursued the suspect; however, he was not immediately apprehended.

OPD investigators determined the suspect operating the stolen vehicle was McMillen.

A warrant for aggravated assault of a peace officer was obtained for McMillen and investigators located him in an apartment at 610 Burton. Officers attempted to have McMillen exit the residence but were unsuccessful.

The Orange Regional Tactical Team (ORTT) was called in and was able to resolve the situation, and place McMillen into custody.

During the investigation, investigators determined McMillen was  responsible for stealing a vehicle from West Orange Stark Cove ISD and intentionally damage the Valero Gas Station, located at 2323 Interstate 10. He was also responsible for a stolen vehicle from Frey’s Nursery, a stolen trailer and intentional damage at My Garage Self Storage, evading arrest from a vehicle, and felon in possession of a firearm.

The additional charges will be processed on McMillen.
