Approximately $129,000 in cash was discovered during a traffic stop by the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) Interdiction Unit detectives on Feb. 18.

According to BPD, at 7:30 p.m. while working Interstate 10, detectives observed a Jeep Commander committing numerous traffic violations. Once the driver was stopped and questioned, detectives searched the vehicle and found several bundles of vacuum sealed and duct-taped United States currency hidden in a lead-line compartment inside the vehicle.

The currency was seized and the case is currently under investigation with charges pending for money laundering. The Lumberton Police Department’s K-9 Unit assisted in this seizure.

According to BPD, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was notified and will be working with BPD on the case.
