Free walk-up COVID-19 testing will be provided by the city of Port Arthur, the state of Texas and Lamar State College Port Arthur on Aug. 4-6. Tuesday, Aug. 4, testing will be facilitated at the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive, from noon to 4 p.m.

July 14, the City of Port Arthur Health Department (PAHD) reported the eighth COVID-19 related death of a resident of Port Arthur. The individual was an African American female between the age ranges of 50-55. It has been determined that this individual had underlying health conditions.

The City of Port Arthur and Jefferson County will be providing free coronavirus testing in Port Arthur at the Downtown Pavilion on Proctor Street on Wednesday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to be tested will need to pre-register by calling (409) 550-2536.

The Southeast Texas Regional Emergency Operations Center announced alternative COVID-19 testing sites in Port Arthur and Orange County beginning May 5. COVID-19 tests provided at the alternative testing sites will only be available for residents of that area.

April 6, the City of Port Arthur Health Department (PAHD) reported the first COVID-19 related death of a Port Arthur resident. The gentleman was between the ages of 45-50 years old and had underlying health issues, the department reports. He had no known travel history.

At the direction of City Attorney Val Tizeno, the Port Arthur City Council and Mayor Thurman Bartie passed an amended ordinance that would limit public congregation of more than 10 in public or private city facilities.

Port Arthur ISD closing until 'further notice'

Effective March 17, 2020, all facilities and campuses of the Port Arthur Independent School District will be closed until further notice. Parents and students are asked to obtain course work which will be placed on the district and campus websites.
