Over 2,100 Entergy Texas workers and contractors worked around the clock restoring power to more that 80,000 customers in Southeast Texas following Tropical Storm Edouard. The storm hit the Texas Coast in the evening hours of Tuesday, Sept 1.
Lineman, vegetation crews, damage assessors, and support personnel worked around the clock. Teams used boats, high water vehicles, rear alley machines, helicopters, and drones were used during the restoration. "I want to thank our customers for their patience and thank our employees and contractors for their determination to safely restore power as quickly as possible" said Eliecer Viamontes, CEO for Entergy Texas.
Entergy Texas maintains its power lines, the service line to the home and the electric meter. Customers are responsible for equipment such as the meter base, weatherhead and their home's electric wiring. Damage to that equipment requires repairs by a licensed electrician before Entergy can safely reconnect service, even when the surrounding neighborhood has power.
"We know how disruptive any outage is for families and businesses and we take our responsibility to deliver reliable service seriously, especially during severe weather events. Our community partners helped us stay connected and to customers throughout their response and we are grateful for their support." Viamontes added.
Thousands of Southeast Texans waited in the dark for days until their power was restored.
