School bus driver arrested for DWI with students aboard

A Lumberton ISD bus driver was released on a $10,000 bond after authorities said he was arrested for being intoxicated while transporting students.

Feb. 23, Glenn Edward Seamans, 65, of Lumberton, was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger younger than 15.

As conditions of release, Seamans must install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle, wear a GPS monitor, and use an alcohol-monitoring device that alerts authorities if he consumes alcohol, Hardin County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Mark Ames reported.

Lumberton Police Department Chief Danny Sullins said officers detected the smell of alcohol on Seamans after he returned from his second bus route. The bus driver was then taken to police headquarters for testing, and officers determined Seamans’ blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit; he also submitted to a blood draw and was later transported to the Hardin County Jail.

Lumberton ISD officials said administration became aware of a possible impaired-driving concern only after the route was completed. All students arrived safely, and no incidents were reported. Seamans reportedly missed his first route that morning after arriving late but completed his second route before drawing suspicion.

The district said the driver has been placed on administrative leave and is not operating any district vehicle. Parents were notified, and another driver has been assigned to Seamans’ routes.

Driving while intoxicated with a passenger younger than 15 is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in state jail, a fine of up to $10,000, and a 180-day driver’s license suspension.
