Utility commission suspends utility shut offs

In an open meeting held March 26, the Public Utility Commission of Texas responded to Governor Greg Abbott's declaration of emergency with a series of measures intended to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 hardships on power, water and sewer customers across the state.

City of Groves: Don't flush non-flushable items

The city of Groves reported the city's drainage system is beginning to experience blockages to their main lines. They say it is due to the toilet paper shortage. "Please remember that rags, clothing and baby wipes are not flushable," the city announced.

Nederland ISD extends closure

Nederland ISD will remain closed through at least April 10, according to a news release from the district. The district will provide a meal pickup service for children 18 and under from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Central Middle School, C.O.

Port Arthur resident tests positive for COVID-19

The Port Arthur Health Department has confirmed the city’s first case of the COVID-19 coronavirus. According to information from the department, the patient is a resident of Port Arthur and is between the ages of 40-50. 

Texas unemployment up 860% over last week

Governor issues order quarantining NY, New Orleans visitors

March 26, Governor Greg Abbott announced he will issue an executive order that will force those flying into the state of Texas from the New York tri-state area, including New Jersey and Connecticut, or New Orleans to quarantine for a 14-day period.

Beaumont COVID cases up to eight, two in hospital

The Beaumont Public Health Department received confirmation of another coronavirus case in a Beaumont resident today, March 26. The newest diagnosis brings the case count in the municipality up to eight. The Health Department reports those confirmed to have COVID-19 range in age 23-79.
