Kountze traffic lights are without power

Several traffic lights in Kountze were without power around noon Wednesday.  KPD patrol vehicles were at those intersections, creating all-way stops. Traffic remained in a smooth flow toward Beaumont just before noon, despite the stops.

H-E-B reports several local stores are closed until further notice to assess damage from Hurricane Laura. The company released the following information at about 9 a.m. on Aug. 27: "Store hours and operations (UPDATED 8/27) "The following stores remain closed until further notice.

Southbound traffic on Hwy 69 is relatively clear between Beaumont and Lufkin.  Several cars with Beaumont-area license plates were traveling toward Jefferson County at 10:30 a.m. A heavy state trooper presence can be seen throughout the route.

Evacuation canceled

After a harrowing night of anticipating Hurricane Laura’s landfall, Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick is calling off the area’s mandatory evacuation beginning at 10 a.m. on Aug. 27. The evacuation order has been in effect since Aug. 25.

JSCO asks for patience amid residents planning to return

From the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office:  “We are getting many inquiries about citizens being able to immediately return home to Jefferson County,” the release reads.  As of 7:30 a.m. Aug. 27, first responders including JCSO Deputies, local law enforcement agencies, DPS, TXDOT, etc.
