The Texas Attorney General Office has joined in U.S. Supreme Court in an attempt to stop railroads from allowing stopped trains to block traffic indefinitely.

Filing set for Sour Lake council seats

The filing dates for the upcoming election for the Sour Lake City Council are Wednesday, Jan. 18, through Friday, Feb. 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at City Hall, 625 State Highway 105. There are three at-large seats up for election, currently held by Robin Powell, Johnathan Williams and Rebecca Gardiner.

Four teens injured in Silsbee speeding crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated a single-vehicle crash on Neyland Road, just north of Mormon Road, near Silsbee on Jan. 5. The preliminary investigation indicates that, at approximately 4:50 p.m., a 2004 GMC pickup was traveling south.

The Save The Pines Project’s Chili Cook Off is Saturday, Jan. 14, in downtown Silsbee. This is the third year for the event. There will be a first, second and third-place award and People’s Choice Award for the top teams.

Two named all-state choir

Lumberton High School junior Grace Dunwoody and freshman Emerson Treme were named to the Texas All State Choir recently. This is Dunwoody’s second time being named All-State. Next month, both students will perform in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators’ Association Convention.
