Scholarship pageant set in Orange Co.

The annual Miss Orange County Scholarship Pageant is Saturday, April 1, in the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Auditorium. The contest is open to Orange County residents only, ages 9-18. Deadline to register is Feb. 28. For more information, visit www.missorangecountytx.org.

Up the creek – with a paddle

Explore the Big Thicket with a guided canoe trip to experience the waterway of the preserve from a new angle. The free adventure targets the casual and novice paddler. Canoes, life jackets and paddles are provided. Visitors are asked to bring water, snacks and water shoes.

The annual CASA Classic Golf Tournament is set for Friday, April 28, at the Wildwood Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person scramble and costs $400 per team to register. First flight check-in and breakfast is 7 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

The Silsbee Police Department reported an elderly man was arrested recently. Jan. 20, Norman Dean Land, 87, was arrested for criminal mischief, $2,500-$30,000, a state jail felony. Five others were also arrested on various charges recently. Jan.
