A Groves man who allegedly beat his nephew was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on third-degree felony charges of injury to a child. Mohamed Adel Jebokji, 39, was indicted for the child assault charges related to a May 9, 2022, incident recounted in a probable cause affidavit on May 10.

CRIME NEWS | Woman sentenced for boyfriend’s murder

A Port Arthur woman charged with murdering her live-in boyfriend in 2019 was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to serve 45 years in prison on Jan. 27. Trial No. 520 under Judge John Stevens in the Jefferson County Criminal District Court, the State v Amesty Smith, commenced Jan.

CRIME NEWS | Man indicted for aggravated assault

Jan. 25, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted a man accused of stabbing his co-worker just before Thanksgiving 2022. Jaime Parada-Gonzales, 41, was indicted for aggravated assault, a second-degree felony for the Nov. 22, 2022, stabbing incident.
