A Jefferson County grand jury charged a transient 34-year-old man with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after officers noticed a spray-painted Honda Civic traveling the wrong way on 4th Avenue in Port Arthur.

According to a probable cause affidavit released Jan. 11, a PAPD officer noticed a black 2007 Honda Civic, bearing a plate which returned to a 1995 Nissan, driving on the wrong side of the road. After making contact with the driver, identified as 34-year-old Sergio Angiano Preciado, the officer noticed that the car had been spray painted.

“I could see behind the driver’s seat a spray can matching the color,” wrote the officer. “I gave dispatch the VIN, and they confirmed that the vehicle was stolen. Due to Angiano operating a vehicle without consent of the owner, he was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.”

As of press time, Preciado was listed on the Jefferson County inmate roster alongside an $80,000 bond.
