A Harris County man was killed while street racing on Interstate 10 with other sports cars on Feb. 4, according to Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne. Aniket Sanyal, 32, of Houston, died in the crash on the 1-10 east service road in Winnie.

According to Hawthorne, at about 2:30 p.m., Chambers County Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting multiple vehicles racing on I-10 eastbound toward Winnie from Mont Belvieu. Fifteen minutes later, a Chambers County Sheriff’s deputy located one of the vehicles that had crashed on the service road. Sanyal was found dead in his car.

The sheriff stated multiple sports cars were in the area but left the scene when the deputies arrived.

Hawthorne said anyone with information about the group of vehicles that left the scene is asked to contact the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office at (409) 267-2500.
