Southeast Texas businessman, Amazing Roofing and Siding proprietor Jason McKnight, was still being held behind bars at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on April 8 when the bicyclist he allegedly struck and left in the middle of a West End Beaumont street succumbed to his injuries at the Houston-area hospital he had been at since March 29.

Sunday, March 29, at 9:09 a.m., Beaumont Police officers responded to the 5300 block of Delaware in reference to a hit-and-run accident involving bicyclist Edward Stedman IV. Within five minutes, EMS, police and fire personnel were on the scene with the victim, who was unresponsive and had to be life-flighted to Houston due to the extensiveness of his injuries. Other officers were at a different scene – where the suspect vehicle was eventually stopped and detained at Delaware near Eastex. Witnesses on scene observed the suspect vehicle strike the victim and continue driving until officers were able to stop his vehicle and arrest McKnight, age 52 from Beaumont, for causing an accident involving personal injury or death.
