Beaumont Community Players’ season opener begins Sept. 9 with one of the most universally loved treasures of American musical theater in Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man.”

In 1957, the show became a hit on Broadway, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and ran 1,375 performances. The cast album won the first Grammy for best Musical Theater Album and spent 245 weeks on the Billboard charts. The show’s success led to Broadway and West End revivals, a popular 1962 film adaption and a 2003 TV adaption.

At BCP, “The Music Man” marks the return of Paula Bothe as director and this family friendly spectacular should not to be missed.

The plot concerns conman Harold Hill, who poses as a boys’ band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to Midwestern townfolk, promising to train the members of the new band. Harold is no musician, however, and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Prim librarian and piano teacher Marian sees through him, but when Harold helps her younger brother overcome his lisp and social awkwardness, Marian begins to fall in love with him. He risks being caught to win her heart.

The cast includes Katriana Nossa, Emma Brown, JJ Jackson, Landis Buckner, Leyni Illa-Petersen, Angel Suitt, GiGi Mondello, Chad Illa-Petersen, Brandon Rhodes, Alisa Bell, Jeri Sullivan, Jo Fuller, Nancy Beaulieu, Lon Felps, Glen Wise, Austin Wise, Don Reeves, BJ Sanchez, Heriberto Sanchez, Jared Mozeley, Benjamin Jester, Bert Smith, Daniel Whitton, Tom Rodman, Aaron McClendon, Chase Mason and Remi Kimball.
