BPD: Majority of shootings connected, stem from an ongoing feud between two groups
Two suspects were arrested following the May 7 shooting after officers quickly developed leads with assistance from the Lamar University Police Department, leading to the identification of a vehicle and two suspects, according to the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).
BPD reported a search warrant was executed shortly afterwards by detectives with the support of SWAT, Special Assignment Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
As a result, Jordan Washington, 27, and Wesley Davis, 20, both of Beaumont, were taken into custody on felony warrants for deadly conduct, issued through the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
During the operation, two firearms believed to have been used in recent shootings were recovered.
Detectives have identified additional suspects, and more arrests are impending.
"Investigators need cooperation from victims, witnesses, and anyone who may have information related to these cases. Even the smallest detail could help bring resolution and prevent further violence," according to BPD.
According to BPD, officers have responded to shootings since the early morning hours of May 1, resulting in eight victims across the city. Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit have been working tirelessly to investigate these cases, follow leads and identify those responsible, despite the lack of cooperation from victims and witnesses.
The reported shooting were:
• May 1 – 3255 Elmira: Two individuals shot
• May 4 – 2525 N. 11th St. (Grand Hotel): One individual shot
• May 4 – 1700 block of Glasshouse: Two individuals shot
• May 4 – 500 block of East Virginia: One individual shot and a residence struck by gunfire
• May 5 – 4600 block of Maddox: Two individuals shot, multiple vehicles and apartment building struck by gunfire
• May 7 – 500 block of E. Virginia: Residence struck by gunfire
BPD reported investigators have evidence that the majority of these shootings are connected and stem from an ongoing feud between two groups.
"The violence is targeted and not random," said BPD officials.
BPD reported the use of surveillance cameras and license plate reader technology has been instrumental in progressing these investigations. BPD is also working in partnership with the District Attorney's Office as well as ATF and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to explore federal prosecution options.
