Man found guilty, sentenced in child sex crime case

James Daniel Swearingen, 29, was found guilty and sentenced May 13 to 65 years and 20 years in prison for child sex crimes by a Hardin County jury, according to Hardin County District Attorney Rebecca Walton.

Walton said Swearingen was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child involving sexual contact. He received a 65-year sentence for the aggravated sexual assault charge and a 20-year sentence for the indecency charge. The sentences will run concurrently in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Assistant District Attorney Pam Ibeh prosecuted the case in the 356th Judicial District Court with Judge Steven Thomas presiding.

“I appreciate the help of law enforcement in the investigation of this case and applaud the efforts of the many witnesses who testified,” Ibeh said. “We will continue to work to keep our community safe for children.”

According to jail records, the offenses occurred July 22, 2014, in Silsbee. Swearingen was 18 at the time of the crimes.
