Local psychologist behind bars

Beaumont psychologist Dr. John Walter Bordages Jr. was arrested on July 16, after sending his 1,000-page memoir in his place and failing to appear before Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens.

Last week, standing before Stevens, Bordages’ courtappointed attorney John West indicated he hadn’t seen his client when the court inquired about his whereabouts.

Although last week’s Examiner’s story about Bordages credited West for his suggestion that his client was perhaps a psychologist in need of a psychiatrist. Later, The Examiner learned from West that the suggestion/statement originated from Prosecutor Sonny Eckhart.

Charged with the state jail felony of criminal mischief valued between $2,500 and $30,000 after Bordages was caught on camera shattering his West End neighbor’s glass door with his fist on June 25, 2023, and a series of incidents triggered by a home owners association (HOA) dispute, Bordages was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in December 2023.

Bordages, who failed to appear in court, was denied bond and will remain in custody at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility until he sees Stevens, which could be in several weeks, according to the court coordinator.
