Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard reported that Christopher Glen Stimits was arraigned Feb. 15 by Gina Cleveland, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4, and bond was set at $400,000.
The charge stems from what authorities describe as a recent violent assault involving his girlfriend. Havard said the bond amount reflects the seriousness of the allegations and is intended to ensure Stimits’ appearance in court while also protecting the public.
“This bond is significant, but necessary to ensure his court appearance and protect the public from his criminal activity and violent tendencies,” Havard said. Havard added that Stimits has had repeated encounters with law enforcement over the years.
“He is one individual who has been given chance after chance,” Havard said. “I’m certainly glad he’s in our jail and hopefully he will remain there for a long period of time.”
The sheriff noted that deputies, both under his administration and previous administrations, have spent considerable time responding to incidents involving Stimits. Havard said multiple individuals have been victimized over the years and expressed hope that the incarceration will bring relief to the community.
Havard also thanked Cleveland and the county’s other justices of the peace for their effort to ensure justice in the community.
“I want to thank Judge Cleveland and our other five Justices of the Peace across our county for the work they are doing to protect our citizens,” he said. “They do an outstanding job given the guidelines and parameters they have to work with. Our office will continue to work with them and do everything we can to keep these repeat offenders in jail.”
