Beaumont police officer struck by stray bullet

A Beaumont police officer was uninjured after his bulletproof vest stopped a stray bullet Wednesday evening.

Just before 10 p.m. on July 4, Officer Boudreaux and his partner Officer Shoemaker had issued a verbal warning to several people who were popping fireworks on the corner of West Virginia and Park St.

Activists align to stop sub-minimum wage pay for persons with disabilities

Paychecks amounting to less than $1 for a week’s worth of work and instances of employees being paid pennies an hour for their labor are just some of the reasons activists from all over the country, including Beaumont, are crying foul and calling for a boycott of organizations paying the sub-par wages.

Man dies July 4 in apparent drowning

 

A 27-year-old Port Neches resident died on Independence Day, July 4, in a possible drowning at a Neches River sandbar in Vidor.

Dorothy Anne Conn

Dorothy Anne Conn passed away Tuesday July 3, 2012.  She was very active in countless civic organizations giving generously of her time and talents to the arts. She was preceded in death by her husband and life partner Carroll (C.W.) Conn in 2004.

Maintenance worker discovers body at bottom of city pool

Drowning victim identified as Shaquill Dixon, 17

Detectives have identified the young man whose body a maintenance worker found at the bottom of the Magnolia Pool located at the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center as Shaquill Dixon, a 17-year-old resident of Beaumont.  According to preliminary autopsy reports, the cause of his death was drowning.
