Leaping into fall
Though summer doesn’t officially end until Sept. 22, Labor Day was the first sign that the long, hot summer is coming to a close. Many memories of socials hitting the shore or the lakes last weekend to enjoy the final days of the summer delights. Those that spent their days in cooler temps such as Colorado, New Mexico and Montana are packing up their homes and making plans to arrive back in our fair city for the many fundraisers that will soon kick off the social season. One of the first soirées will be hosted by the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) on Friday, Sept. 23, with their annual gala. This year’s title is “Fashion with Feathers 2022.” This year will be the 35th anniversary gala honoring art patrons Jane and Joe Bob, Keely and Craig Kinsel as well as artist Greg Busceme. Cocktails begin flowing at 7 p.m. followed by an 8 p.m. dinner with a live auction. Bando’s Catering will prepare delicious meal with steak, Cornish game hens, plus a live performance by Flava Band for your dancing pleasure. Julie Casanova and Gerald Farha are the co-chairs with committee members Camille Ohmstede, Kit Ohmstede and yours truly. Feathery cocktail attire is requested along with smashing smiles on your faces. Table prices begin at $2,500 and individual tickets start at $250. So excited… about the artist reception featuring Joan Steinman on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Houston Club in downtown Houston. From our fair city, Joan is a sixth generation Texan who has been painting for 45 years and many of her subjects that she paints are inspired by scenes connected to her family’s history. She once spent two years painting portraits for her family.
Once again... Ubi Caritas’ 13th annual Date Night Auction will be the first event held in the new Suite C Event Lounge, which is located at 6165 Meula Creek Dr. in Beaumont, on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. Single tickets are $125 and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com. See you there!
Birthday bashes… Several of our town’s favs were fêted on their special day recently beginning with bday dinners at JW’s Patio with Luke Hanson and his family members Kendall Hanson, Ella Hanson, Diane and Bill Christian and Ryan Atwood. At another table, the divine diva Barbara Quinn was also fêted with a Barbie cake by life time pals Kelli Maness, Anne Winslow, Lou Ann Peacock, Brenda White, Lou Huber, Kit Ohmstede, Jo Vance, Tootsie Crutchfield and Jessica Malach. Raising their glasses on the patio to Linda Gail Blackwell were Jan Pierce, Gracelynn Miller, Kathy Krotzer and Rachel Linthicum. Over the weekend, Michele Smith was the honoree at dinner with Mitch Smith and Tammy and Scott Crutchfield after the foursome enjoyed the U.S. Open in NYC. Saturday afternoon, Leonard Juncker hosted an open house to celebrate his significant other, Sharen Kirksey. In the mix were Ellen and Danny Phelan, Marty Craig, Sandy and Joseph Fertitta, Carol Chilton, Sharon and Roger McCabe, Pat and Craig Sherlock, Diane and Don Shaver, Karen and Arnold Manske, Jeff McManus, James Mathews, Paige Windham, Norma Crane, Kathy and Pat Kojak, Kim and Roy Steinhagen, Becky and John Reimers, Nancy and Larry Beaulieu, Molly and Frank Messina, just to name a few. On Sunday evening, Michele Byrd was celebrated by Tracy Byrd and their family with huge blowout at the beach with tons of nearest and dearest (Would we expect anything else from one of our town’s fav who was born on a national holiday?). Bday wishes to all!
