CRIME NEWS | Woman sentenced for boyfriend’s murder

A Port Arthur woman charged with murdering her live-in boyfriend in 2019 was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to serve 45 years in prison on Jan. 27. Trial No. 520 under Judge John Stevens in the Jefferson County Criminal District Court, the State v Amesty Smith, commenced Jan.

In no time at all, internet sleuths identified a man Port Arthur police were searching for the morning of Feb. 8. Within two hours of releasing sultry selfies of a sought suspect, daytime detectives released word that the mystery man’s moniker had been marked.

Man sentenced for murder of ‘friend’

After pleading guilty to the murder of a man he called his “friend,” Darian Petry of Port Arthur was sentenced to the maximum allowed under a plea agreement with prosecutors at the end of January. Petry stood accused of shooting longtime friend Kenneth Swallow, 30, of Port Arthur, on Aug. 16, 2020.

New name, age for murder suspect in PA homicide

An 18-year-old Port Arthur man was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in connection with a fatal shooting on Sept. 10, 2022 – one where 15-year-old Kalin White was previously certified to stand trial as an adult for the same murder.

Early morning fire destroys PA church

An online fundraising campaign is aimed to help rebuild a Port Arthur church that was destroyed by fire on Jan. 19. The fire, which destroyed the Endtime Deliverance Holiness Church, at the corner of 19th Street and 2nd Avenue, occurred around 2:30 a.m.

Man indicted for shooting girlfriend

A Port Arthur man, who allegedly shot his girlfriend, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury for aggravated assault on Jan. 18. Mark Allen Davis, 20, was arrested Dec. 13 for the first-degree felony. He remains in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility under a $500,000 bond.
